2011 Adventures...a look back.
2011 was an exciting and memorable year for DJ & Megan. Here's a quick (hopefully) rundown on the year!
We started off the year watching WVU play in the Champs Sports Bowl. WVU lost, but we had a great time, as usual.
In February we headed to Steamboat Springs, CO for our annual ski trip with some friends. This trip we had 14 people in our amazing house that not only had an indoor BASKETBALL court, we also had a rooftop hot tub and were ski in/ ski out! Before the rest of the group arrived, DJ & I went snowmobiling and had an amazing time! We were able to encounter the Continental Divide again (we've done this a few times over the years) and had some amazing snow conditions.
Shortly after returning from our ski trip, I left for a trip to London to meet my new niece, Lucille Kate (Luci). Mel, Liam, Luci and I took a trip to CADBURY WORLD!! What an amazing place! We had plenty of chocolate and bought TONS of chocolate at the company store! Also while in the UK, Mike, Liam and I went to the rock climbing gym. Liam is such a little spiderman! He loved every second of climbing.
March was an awesome month! I was able to travel to Ft. Campbell, KY for my brother's homecoming from his tour in Afghanistan! That was one homecoming that was quite emotional, but worth every second spent out in the cold and drizzle waiting for his plane to land!
DJ's parents came down for his birthday at the beginning of April and we took them over to St. Augustine. We had beautiful weather and it wasn't crowded. It's always fun to visit this historic and beautiful city. Also while Wanda & Dave were visiting I took them to Payne's Prairie to see the alligators that live in the Alachua Sink. It was a great day for viewing the gators and we even had one very large gator blocking the path! Needless to say, we didn't walk to the observation tower! With April came our annual voyage to see JIMMY BUFFETT in Tampa!! This year we had some great friends join us...Ryan and his wife, Lyndin came over from Orlando. Christa came down from Jacksonville and Lisa flew in for a very quick CLM reunion!! We hadn't been together in a very long time, so we were thrilled! DJ & I also celebrated his birthday and our anniversary with dinner at one of our favorite steak restaurants...Bern's! If you're in Tampa...check them out!
April was almost over, but we can't forget to mention that I traveled to Paris & London! My friend, Karen, and I flew to Paris for a couple of days. We took an awesome tour, the "Chocolate & Pastry" tour...AH-MAZ-ING!! Seeing that we had both spent time in Paris before, we weren't worried about hitting all the typical sightseeing spots. We did visit the Musee d'Orsay. We also walked through Notre Dame while taking a break from our Hop on/hop off bus ride. After eating lots of yummy food and discovering french macaroons, it was time to take the Eurostar to London! Melanie, my sister, met us in the train station and it was time for our REAL adventure! Oh, yes, we were there for THE ROYAL WEDDING!! We had a plan in our heads and couldn't wait to put in action. Our hotel was in the Embassy area of London. We were within walking distance of Buckingham Palace, so we got up around 4a to get ready, place our fascinators to our heads and head to find the PERFECT spot to see Will and Kate! We got lucky and found a spot right across from Buckingham Palace! Not only did we see guests departing the palace for the wedding, we also saw the Queen leave! Before we knew it, police escorts came around the corner and there was Pippa riding with some of the children who were in the wedding!! Moments late, Kate and her father arrived and we were able to see her! I have one picture that looks like she was actually smiling and waving to me! After over 8 hours of standing (with no potty break), it was time to head back to the hotel. Once I had uploaded pictures and we had changed, it was time to do some shopping eating!! The next day we headed up to Littleport to see Luci & Liam! Karen & I had a couple of days with Melanie and her family before it was time to head back to London and hop our plane back to the States! More to come....
